Not surprisingly, immediately after the qualifying session for tomorrow’s DTM finale at Hockenheim, pole-sitter Mattias Ekstrom promised to make life difficult for Paul by racing him harder than he would his own fellow Audi driver and championship leader, Timo Scheider. Paul, in turn, hopes Audi’s team tactics don’t go too far.
“To be honest, I expected Mattias to say that, but I’m not worried,” Paul said. “It’s going to be a long race, with a lot of people involved and if anyone wants to be silly then let them. I’m sure the officials will deal with anything accordingly.
“Of course I will fight with him, but it has to be within reason. I understand that he’s going to fight harder with me, and I’m sure my team-mates will do that with Timo, but as we’ve said all along everyone just needs to keep it clean.”
